Music
Music at Reed School is based on things children naturally like to do: sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance and act out stories. We use percussion instruments and xylophones to accompany songs and create melodies. Classes take place in a non-competitive atmosphere where play and exploration lead naturally to the pleasure of making music with others. Students have opportunities to perform for their families at winter and spring concerts.
Art
Art education leads to higher student achievement and learning substantive art content promotes critical thinking and creativity throughout the curriculum. Reed School focuses on studio art through drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, clay and paper mache. Exposure to the great artists is embedded into the art experience throughout the school year. Reed School offers students a state of the art classroom for the optimum art experience.
P.E.
The P.E. pyramid contributes to a student's growth physically, socially and emotionally.
-Physical Development: Life long fitness, endurance, flexibility, strength, balance and good motor skills.
-Emotional Development: Positive self esteem, goal setting, perseverance, self control.
-Social Development: Sportsmanship, team-work, cooperation, participation
But most importantly, we are learning how to have fun!
Library
We foster the love of reading by introducing all genres of literature to the students. They also learn library skills and how to take care of books. The Reed Library has a wonderful collection of 14,000 books. The “Birthday Book” program sponsored by the PTA helps us buy new books. The children are super excited when they get a “Birthday Book” donated to the library.
We are looking forward to doing some fun projects with our schedule. Our big highlight is The Spring Book Fair hosted in the library. Book Fair Night, a fun filled event brings families together for the love of books!
